Following and extending from the Vico Magistretti — Travelling Archive exhibition at the Melbourne Design Week 2019, the book Geometry, Simplicity, Play: Exhibiting Vico Magistretti is launched over the Melbourne Design Week 2020.
Informed by ‘conceptual simplicity’ and often guided by re-interpretative investigations of anonymous objects, Vico Magistretti’s products deeply contribute to everyday engagement with design by the wider community. The book, authored by Louise Wright and Mauro Baracco (Baracco+Wright Architects) and published by international publishing company Actar, provides a reflection on the conceptual framework of this Milanese architect and industrial designer, his work and relevance to issues facing designers today. This book and related events contribute to the extended discourse that is undertaken internationally this year (2020) over the centenary year of Magistretti’s birth date (1920-2006).
This project is a partnership between Italian Institute of Culture, Melbourne; RMIT School of Architecture and Urban Design; and Vico Magistretti Foundation, Milan. The associated events are part of Melbourne Design Week 2020, an initiative of the Victorian Government in collaboration with the NGV.
